The approach to Inchimore Farm Next Photo
The exact date when the stone farmhouse was built has been lost, but at least a hundred years ago. If you talk to most of the men in their forties in the village they used to work here as boys. It was a thriving farm with cattle and sheep but gradually fell into disuse as the owners became too old and infirm to keep it going.
About 25 years ago the whole of the top end of the valley (1000 acres in all) was bought by an American called Fuzzy, who fell in love with the area. He modernised and improved both houses, putting in modern bathrooms and a huge kitchen extension at Inchimore. He installed a pipeline from the lake which gives a constant and totally reliable source of water. He and his extended family only visited for a few days each year, so the whole area became an unspoilt paradise for plants and animals. Later he sold the bog area. Maybe it was the pull of our ancestry, but in June 2004 we visited County Kerry and, like Fuzzy, fell in love with the valley - the space, the magnificent mountains, the huge expanse of sky and especially the unceasing variety of colours. We are very fortunate to have this on our doorstep and would like to share it with you.
